South Carolina man Jackson Rutland steals cremated remains of ex’s mom to sell for heroin



Police said a South Carolina man stole his ex-girlfriend’s mother’s funeral to sell it so she could buy heroin.

When the woman returned home, she saw that the back door was broken and the house was ransacked. According to arrest records he told the police that his mother’s ashes were tampered with and some were spread on the floor.

The warrant states that Rutland allegedly swiped the remains to sell to buy heroin, although it is unclear how or why he thought he might have sold the ashes for cash.

“I’ve never heard anything like this,” Aiken County Sheriff Captain Eric Abdullah told WRDW.
