Three Port Authority officers were injured Friday afternoon while trying to stop a stolen car fleeing New York City via the Holland Tunnel, according to law enforcement sources.
Sources said officers received information about a stolen Mercedes Benz in Manhattan at about 1:20 p.m., which was headed to the tunnel, and notified the New Jersey State Police.
Benz entered the tunnel at around 1:30 and exited 15 minutes later, at which point Port Authority officials approached the car.
But the driver refused to open the door and instead accelerated – rammed three vehicles and ran over an officer, sources said.
Two officers suffered hand injuries and the third suffered head and knee injuries. All three were taken to a local hospital.
Sources said the thieves ransacked the Mercedes in Newark, where all four men got into another vehicle and fled.
Detectives are looking for the video and searching the car for fingerprints.
