New York Lotto is a draw game exclusive to the Empire State with a starting jackpot of $2 million USD. To win the jackpot, players have to match six numbers out of a possible 59. Tickets cost $1 USD for two plays.
A total of seven numbers are drawn, with the last number serving as the bonus number and giving players the chance to win a bigger prize if they match the five main numbers and the bonus ball. There are a further three prize tiers for players who match three, four or five numbers, with the exception of the Match 3 prize, in which all prize levels are cross-mutual.

New York Lotto History
The New York Lottery Organization was established in 1966, although many other lotteries have been played in the state since the late 19th century, when the proceeds were used to build government establishments and subsidize sporting events and education.
The New York Lotto was introduced in November 1978 and was initially played every Saturday until a Wednesday draw was added in 1983.
The record New York Lotto jackpot is $90 million and was shared among nine ticket holders on January 26, 1991. The largest prize claimed by a single player is $65 million and went to maintenance man Degli Martinez on June 29, 2007.
How to claim the prize
Depending on how much you have won, there are different options for redeeming your prize.
$600 and under
There are three ways to claim prizes of $600 and less:
$601 and up
To redeem winning tickets of $601 and above, choose one of the options below. For all award claims, you will need the following documents:
- Winning Ticket (sign it and complete the back)
- complete claim form
- valid government issued identification
- Social Security Number or FEIN
For security, make a copy of the front and back of your ticket and form before making a claim.
Ways to claim the prize:
- Make an appointment to visit one of the lottery’s customer service centers
- Claim at your nearest Rewards Claim Center – no appointment required
- Mail your claim in the lottery – follow the steps above.
