The Olympic Games are held every four years, in which thousands of athletes from all over the world participate.
What is the history of International Olympic Day
The International Olympic Committee of the Sorbonne (Paris) was formed on 23 June 1894 to organize the Olympic Games. The purpose of this committee was to organize, promote and regulate modern sports. It was on this day that Pierre de Coubertin rallied to revive the ancient Olympic Games. However, many years after the formation of the IOC, the celebration of Olympic Day started.
In fact, in the 41st season of the International Olympic Committee, IOC member Dr. Grass first proposed the idea of World Olympic Day in Stockholm, Sweden. A few months later, in January 1948, it was approved for the 42nd season in St. Moritz, Switzerland, when International Olympic Day was celebrated for the first time on 23 June 1948.
What is the theme of Olympic Day
The theme of this year’s International Olympic Day is ‘Together, for a Peaceful World’. It recognizes the power of sport to bring people together in peace. At the same time, #MoveForPeace and #OlympicDay posts have been shared on social media on World Olympic Day.
