Chelsea Manning became famous as a result of the release of Sensitive and Confidential information,

“I haven’t really been able to explain my narrative or provide my side of events. So, from my point of view think of it as the first account of history, or my first draft if you prefer. Although I court-martialed I gave some brief testimony during the course, but I feel like I haven’t really had a chance to speak much,” she said.
During his time as a US Army intelligence analyst, Manning downloaded approximately 750,000 sensitive and secret military and diplomatic documents. Manning describes his reactions in README.txt.
Later, in 2010, she provided them to WikiLeaks. One of the largest unauthorized releases of public record in American history.
He was found guilty of 20 counts, including theft and espionage, and received a prison sentence of 35 years. Because after spending nearly seven years of his sentence, he was released in 2017 after previous President Obama commuted it.
While she was in Iraq, Manning said she experienced cognitive dissonance, which contributed to her choice to submit papers to WikiLeaks.
“One of my main objectives was to try – I always felt there was a narrative to be on the ground, especially when I was in Iraq, and I always thought of myself as a beautiful, you know, before that. Knowledgeable citizen and very well trained in my profession. Additionally, there was a cognitive dissonance between what I was told with the public and what I was actually seeing on the ground,” Manning is saying.

“I believe there was more to it a few years ago, but I don’t feel like I’m getting the same comments now,” she remarked, “as it probably would have been in 2010 or 2013.

Additionally, Manning’s transition process is described in “README.txt” after she was imprisoned in a military facility and sought hormone therapy through the federal court system. She said that she wanted to draw attention to the struggle she had to go through to get treatment.
“I’m just trying to describe my experience. I definitely needed access to care, and I believe I was able to get it. You know, there was some fighting involved. In the end I got access to healing,” Manning said. “Being trans, in my opinion, can actually be made to be more than that, because after going through the transition process, you are kind of complete, like You integrate into society. And so, you know, I’m really looking forward to that part.”
