Rape. Vicente Gonzalez, a Democratic congressman in Texas, turned out to be swinging against his Republican rival Rep. Myra Flores, scathingly attacking the stoic female lawmaker – claiming she can’t “speak” for herself.
“We’re going to pick a candidate on these external resources that come here, a candidate who can’t think for himself, can’t speak for himself, can’t act for himself, can’t vote for himself.” Gonzalez told his supporters during a vote out drive at the La Sierra Event Center in Harlingen on Wednesday, Fox News reported,
The two current members of Congress face off as a result of redistribution in the new 34th district of the Lone Star state, which snakes south from San Antonio to the border with Mexico.
Flores, 36, joined Congress after winning a special election earlier this year.
Flores told The Post on Saturday that “libertarians like Vicente Gonzalez simply refuse to acknowledge that not all Hispanics treat us like they want us to.”
“So instead of telling voters what they stand for and letting the best ideas prevail, Gonzalez and his friends resort to these disgusting personal attacks. The people of South Texas deserve better. We believe strong, strong.” People with family values and strong work ethic.”
She is one of an emerging generation of Latino and Latina Republicans that the party hopes will play her part in regaining the House in the coming midterm elections.
