The school district in Uvalde, Texas, suspended its entire police force on Friday, five months after a mass shooting killed 19 students and two teachers, a statement from the district said.
The district said it suspended all activities of the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Police Department “for the time being” while two officers, Lieutenants Miguel Hernández and Ken Muller, were placed on administrative leave.
The police department is investigating for its response to the May shooting, which included a delay by officers in reaching the gunman while he was hiding in a classroom.
The school district said it requested additional officials from the Texas Department of Public Safety to provide campus security.
