Kanye West on Thursday criticized New York City’s abortion rights – voicing concern about the number of “abortions of black children” in the Big Apple.
The rapper and fashion designer, 45, sat down with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson to announce that she is “pro-life” as she wore an ultrasound photo of a baby around her neck.
“It’s a picture of a baby ultrasound,” West told the host of the image on a lanyard she still wore from Monday’s Yeezy fashion show in Paris.
“You designed it. Why? What does it mean?” Carlson pushed the rapper “Gold Digger”, who now legally goes by the first name Yeh.
“It just represents life. I am pro-life,” West explained.
“You wear it on a badge. What kind of reaction do you get?” Carlson, 53, asked.
“I don’t care about people’s reactions, but I do care about the fact that there are more black babies being aborted at the moment than are being born in New York City,” the star shot back.
“50% of black deaths in America are abortion. So I don’t really care about people’s reaction to that. I perform for an audience of one and that’s God,” said the Grammy winner.
Non-Hispanic black women accounted for the highest percentage of abortions performed in the Big Apple in 2019 – accounting for nearly a third (32 percent) of total abortions, As per the latest city figures available,
In contrast, non-Hispanic white women accounted for about a fifth (21 percent) of total abortions in New York City.
During West’s first political rally in July 2020, the Grammy Award winner went on an emotional anti-abortion rant after telling a crowd in South Carolina that he and his wife, Kim Kardashian, had considered terminating her pregnancy.
He said at the time that if elected president, he would fight to keep abortion legal, but strongly discouraged it by offering people $1 million for each of their children.
“My father wanted me to have an abortion. My mother saved my life. There’s no Kanye West, because my dad was too busy,” West added at the rally.
