Russia has started another space race.
Former NASA astronaut Scott Kelly mocked Russian President Vladimir Putin’s possession of land in Ukraine He captured Mars’ highest peak by announcing on Twitter last week.
“I have captured Mount Olympus on Mars by my side,” posted by kelly – Adding via justification: “Just saying.”
More than 13 miles above the surface of Mars, Mount Olympus is considered the highest peak in the Solar System.
Kelly’s celestial dispatch came on the same day that Putin illegally annexed nearly one-fifth of Ukraine after gun-toting fake votes were fired in the Ukrainian provinces of Kherson, Zaporizhzhya, Donetsk and Luhansk.
This isn’t the first time Kelly, who spent 340 days in orbit aboard the joint Russian and American International Space Station, has been engaging with her astronaut companions.
In March, shortly after Moscow began its invasion of Ukraine, the cosmonaut flirted with Dmitry Rogozin, the director general of the Russian space program, on Twitter.
Kelly shot back, after tweeting a video of Russians removing the flags of opposing nations from a rocket bound for the International Space Station.
“Dimon, without those flags and the foreign currency they bring, your space program wouldn’t be worth a damn,” American astronaut written in russian, “Maybe you can get a job at McDonald’s if McDonald’s still exists in Russia.”
The controversy continued until Kelly backed out at NASA’s request, CNN told,
But when the Kremlin ousted Rogozin in July, Kelly quipped that it was “delicious and that’s it”—a rough translation of the name of the off-brand fast food chain founded after McDonald’s left Russia in protest of the invasion. was recruiting,
Astronaut continues to tweet in support of Ukraine, recently posted in Russian Appreciate those who oppose Putin’s efforts To send hundreds of thousands of Russian men to the front lines.
And in an acknowledgment of the difficulties facing the Kremlin as its forces lose the area they allegedly occupied, Kelly followed up his annexation tweet with a reply.
“Wait, where is the border of Mount Olympus?” He tweeted on Monday.
