An accused child predator, whose victim reportedly stretched from Manhattan to the Boston suburbs, has pleaded guilty to child rape charges in Massachusetts.
Ray Buono, now 77, who worked at New York’s elite St. David’s School in the 1970s before getting a job at the famed Milton Academy in Massachusetts, There are believed to be dozens of victims.
At least one New York victim, who attended St. David’s, sued him in 2020 Under the state’s Child Victims Act, which opened a legal window for filing old claims in court. Later the matter settled down.
Buono was expelled from Milton in 1987 after the victims were exposed, only to flee to Thailand for decades. it was Repatriated from Thailand in 2018 to face charges in Massachusetts.
On Friday, Buono appeared in Norfolk Superior Court Judge Beverly Cannon to change his plea for a child rape allegation.
“I plead guilty,” he told the judge.
Authorities said Buono used to make his teenage victims drink alcohol and repeatedly molest them in their apartments or on overnight visits. He was sentenced to five years’ probation and ordered to undergo sex offender treatment, register as a sex offender, submit a DNA sample to the state, and undergo GPS surveillance for at least three years.
One victim told the court that Buono’s attacks “stole my childhood.”
