Texas Sen. Ted Cruz controversially claimed Chrissy Teigen suffered an abortion in 2020, but has now chosen to “characterize” it as an abortion to gain political points.
Teigen, 36, lost her third child — whom she and husband John Legend, 43, named Jack — when she suffered placental abruption and had to deliver a fetus at 20 weeks.
placental abruption Occurs when the placenta separates from the uterus and cuts off nutrients and oxygen to the fetus. The complication can kill both the mother and the unborn child.
The model told fans at the time that she had a miscarriage, but earlier this month she revealed that her late son, Jack, Died in a “life-saving miscarriage”.
“Let’s just say it: It was a miscarriage,” said the model and television personality at social effects agency Proper Daily’s “A Day of Unremarkable Conversation” summit.
“A miscarriage to save my life for a baby who had absolutely no chance. And to be honest, I never, really, put it all together until a few months ago.
Teigen told the crowd that she “didn’t make sense of it that way” until Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade,
She said she was sympathetic to those who had to make difficult choices when Legend reminded them that she was one of them.
However, Cruz, a Texas Republican, weighed in on the personal matter on her podcast “Verdict with Ted Cruz” last week when asked about it by co-host Liz Wheeler.
He sensationally suggested that he revisit his experience because of the “political context”.
“She would like to characterize it as abortion in this political context, but she described it as abortion at the time and it certainly seems like that was an accurate description,” he said.
“If there’s a medical procedure in that context, it’s not an abortion. And it’s a law in all 50 states, and it should be a law in all 50 states, that … that … that doctors intervene to save the mother’s life. Even if it means the tragic loss of a child.
“There is no one, not even … the strongest pro-life advocate, no one who argues that when the mother’s life is in danger you cannot take extraordinary medical steps to preserve the mother’s life.” can pick up.”
People were quick to criticize the senator’s claims online.
When did “Doc” Cruz get his medical license? A Twitter user laughed,
“Senator @tedcruz thinks he has a better idea about @chrissyteigen’s medical process than he does,” Another wrote.
Another angry critic shouted, Tweet: “Last time I checked Ted Cruz isn’t a gynecologist and doesn’t even have a uterus.”
