A Texas teenager was left in a medically induced coma after being involved in a violent rollover accident while attending a high school homecoming parade.
Zoe Moody was nominated as the homecoming princess at Bridgeland High School and was scheduled to board a boat at Monday night’s parade before the tragedy, KHOU reported,
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the 16-year-old and his friends were on their way to school when their car crashed on Grand Parkway in Cypress, which is about 20 miles from downtown Houston.
After rolling several times, Moody, who was driving, got out of the vehicle. Police said it appeared he may have tried to make a last-second exit from the highway and that speed may have been a factor.
He was taken to a regional hospital and a passenger was also taken to the hospital by ambulance, According to KPRC-TV,
More than 30 friends, coaches and school staff showed up in the hospital’s waiting room Monday night to show their support for Moody, Moody’s aunt and longtime family friend, Sheila Northcutt, told KHOU.
A few days later, she remains in a coma. Northcutt said he fractured both his femur and patellas, fractured his entire face and had swelling in his brain.
He is expected to survive but the road to recovery is expected to be long and difficult.
“That’s the biggest thing, he’s still here and it could have been absolutely fatal,” Northcutt told the outlet. “Zoe is so stubborn, she’s going to fight it.”
A GoFundMe campaign for Moody’s has raised more than $30,000 to help his family cover medical expenses.
